Mastering Supply Chains Episode 2: How to Navigate Moving – Things No One Talks About

Hello everyone and welcome back to CappuccinoCalling and to Episode two of my series: Mastering Supply Chains.

Since I recently moved from Vienna, Austria to Rotterdam, Netherlands, a lot has happened. I feel like moving often gets romanticized while the tough parts are being pushed aside. So today, I thought I would share a little Pro–Contra List about moving — and then you can decide for yourself how you feel about it.

P.S.: This is meant more for entertainment and reflection, since most of the time we don’t even get to choose when or where we move.

Pro Contra
  • Potential sign of personal growth
  • STRESSFUL → There is never enough time to move in a relaxed way
  • Exciting new chapter in life
  • Can be a sign of instability if it happens too often
  • New faces, new people, new friends!
  • Hard to make new friends / The feeling of starting all over again
  • More opportunities (job, education, hobbies, etc.)
  • Endless admin tasks: registration, updating your address everywhere, new bank account, new contracts (f.ex. wifi) → Even harder in a foreign language
  • Chance to upgrade your living situation
  • Possibility of a downgrade of your previous living situation if prices are higher than before
  • Reinvent yourself (style, hobbies, personality tweaks you wanted to make)
  • Meeting a lot of new people and growing as a person is exhausting sometimes → I currently need a minimum of 9 to 10 hours of sleep every night
  • Expanding your horizons (new cultures, new experiences)
  • The locals might not be welcoming at first
  • Privilege of freedom (especially in Europe). If I wanted to move to Portugal I could literally do that tomorrow!
  • Moving is expensive → furniture, admin work and the actual moving process itself

Personally, I’m definitely Pro Moving — but I’m also still figuring everything out. At the moment, I’m constantly tired, it feels hard to get things done. I am excited to be settled in which means better routines and less sleeping through the whole day because of exhaustion.

What do you think about my Pro–Contra List? Do you have anything you would add? Let me know in the comments!

That’s all for today — love you lots and see you next time <3
